While my husband and I just moved to Norwood in 2006, my grandmother lived her first six years
on Mills Avenue in Norwood.  Ironically, I never knew my grandmother or that she had lived in
Norwood until I bought our building on Mills.  Needless to say, I was very moved and excited to
find out about this connection.

Over the past 5 years, my husband and I have transformed the old Abrams Brake Shop on Mills
Avenue into our home. While many people have wondered what in the world we are doing, most
neighbors have been supportive beyond what we could have hoped for.  We are proud to call
Norwood our home.

Part of why we have invested in our home is because we believe Norwood is a special place:
From its long history as one of Cincinnati's first "suburbs" to its reinventing itself after the GM
plant closed, Norwood has shown that it is a strong community.  It has all of the elements that
make a good urban community--friendly neighbors, walkability, proximity to job centers, etc., and
in order to keep Norwood strong, we must not only maintain but also enhance its assets.

When elected as Ward 1 leader, I will work to put Norwood at the forefront of the local and
national discussions on examples of successful urban communities.  While we are already doing
many things right, we could be doing more.  Let's continue to build on the great strides the mayor
and council have already started by creating a business friendly environment, high quality
schools that encourage young families to choose Norwood as their home, and a vibrant
business district that will attract people from around the greater Cincinnati area.  In addition, I will
work to find solutions on renovating homes that are vacant or rundown, make sure that landlords
are caring properly for their properties, and look for resources to upgrade and promote our
parks and public spaces.

I am excited to be a public servant and will work hard to keep Norwood the great community that
it already is, while looking towards the future on what more it can be.  Please remember to vote
Allan for Ward 1 as well as the rest of my Democratic colleagues in November.
